Car Safety Inspection Near Me

service technician conducting a vehicle safety inspection

Car safety inspections are important for several reasons. First and foremost, they help ensure that your vehicle operates safely and efficiently. Safety inspections can save you time and money by preventing costly repairs and downtime by identifying and fixing potential issues before they become major problems.

Secondly, car safety inspections can also help improve the overall safety of the roadways. Safety inspections can help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries by ensuring that vehicles are in good working condition. This is particularly important for commercial vehicles, which are often involved in collisions due to their large size and heavy loads.

Lastly, in many jurisdictions, car safety inspections are required by law. In Ontario, all vehicles are required to pass a safety inspection before you can put plates on them. This means that if you are planning to buy a used vehicle, it must first pass a safety inspection before you can drive it on the road.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) licenses a variety of auto shops as motor vehicle inspection stations to ensure that your vehicle is inspected properly. This helps ensure that all vehicles on the road meet minimum safety standards and are not dangerous to other drivers.

Vehicle Safety Inspection Process

When you bring your vehicle to our shop, we will check the vehicle with a multi-point safety inspection sheet. Our trained technicians will carefully examine various components of your vehicle, including the brakes, tires, suspension, and steering. They will also check the condition of your lights, mirrors, and other safety equipment to ensure that the vehicle abides by all safety rules and regulations to be on the road.

If the vehicle passes or is deemed “roadworthy,” then you will receive a signed inspection certificate from our shop and pay for the inspection. You can then bring the certificate to your local Service Ontario to have the vehicle registered in your name, allowing you to drive the vehicle legally. The safety certificate is valid for 36 days from the date of issue.

Rectifying Safety Issues

If a vehicle fails a safety inspection in Ontario, the owner will be issued a Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) that outlines the specific defects or issues that need to be addressed. The owner will then have to have the vehicle repaired and re-inspected.

In this case, you have 2 options:

Repair Your Vehicle at Reliance Auto Mechanic

You can choose to utilize Reliance Auto Mechanic to address the unmet safety needs. Our team of certified technicians is trained to diagnose and repair defects and problems with brakes, tires, suspension, steering, and other safety-critical systems. We use only high-quality parts and fluids to ensure that your vehicle operates at its best. In this case, you will pay for the inspection and service to receive your safety certificate.

Repair Your Vehicle Elsewhere

You can pay for the inspection and take your vehicle to another shop to be fixed. In this case, when the vehicle comes back to our shop to obtain the certificate, you will have to submit it to another inspection by us. This is because you have left the shop, and we need to re-inspect the vehicle to ensure that all issues have been properly addressed by the third-party shop. We will charge you for the second inspection; you will receive the safety standards certificate if all pass.

If the vehicle passes the re-inspection, it can then have licence plates installed. However, the vehicle will not be allowed on the road until it passes a safety inspection.
